Sand Lake Center for the Arts
Sand Lake Center for the Arts - Circle Theatre Players, is a not for profit community arts center. The Center is a renovated, historically significant 1835 church with a fully equipped open performing space for theatrical productions, community meetings, concerts, workshops and classes; and is available for rent.
The Center has hosted many activities since opening in September, 2003. Circle Theatre Players presents four productions a year and in 2004 also performed City Girls, a well received, world premiere of an original musical written by a talented local resident.
The Squire Jacob Coffeehouse series began in 2004 with nationally and internationally recognized artists including Chris Shaw & Bridget Ball, Susan Trump, Atwater-Donnelly, and North Sea Gas and continues to provide fine acoustic music to our audiences. We look forward to presenting such luminaries as Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, Eve Goldberg, John Rossbach and more in 2008, and our 2009 series will include Bill Staines and Garnet Rogers. Both Flex and Season Passes are now available.
Our lobby is a light-filled Art Gallery and reception area that boasts original stained glass windows. Changing exhibits each month, serve as an incubator for emerging young artists, and appreciated space for established artists.
Our Café and Gift Shop are open one hour prior to events and feature jewelry fashioned from original stain glassed window dating back to 1890 when the building was known as the First Presbyterian Church. The designer is a former resident and descendent of a glassblower who helped found the Rensselaer Glassworks at Sand Lake.
Children's activities are growing in popularity. The second annual KidsArtsDay was successfully held recently and a series of monthly diverse and participatory workshops has begun. The annual late summer Kids for Kids Theatre production continues to be a sell out.
In addition, the Center is available to rent for classes, meetings, dances, concerts, private parties, weddings, displays, or your special needs. Our floor space is flexible for a variety of uses. It includes lobby space and a large room that can be configured for a coffeehouse atmosphere, meetings or open dance space. Please call (518) 674-2007 or e-mail info@slca-ctp.org for more information.
Volunteer opportunities abound and can be yours by contacting Volunteer Coordinator, Joyce Greenberg at jgreenb3@nycap.rr.com.
The Center is air conditioned, handicapped accessible and has plenty of free parking.
