Find out more about Siobhan Quinn and Michael Bowers

Siobhan Quinn & Michael Bowers are award-winning songwriting partners who live in Virginia but have strong ties to our community. Siobhan Quinn was a 30-year resident of Rensselaer County and this event will bring this well-respected songwriter and former teaching artist back to Rensselaer County for the first time in close to four years. The event will also present songwriter Michael Bowers to the community in a first appearance here. The two writers bring divergent perspectives to songwriting -- varying from Chicago blues to Celtic style of music, to Southern Appalachian & Delta bottleneck blues. Both come from a long genetic line of musicianship stretching back to the 19th century: Siobhan comes from immigrant parents settled in upstate NY, and Michael from rural and later urban Alabama.

Quinn & Michael Bowers will perform and discuss a wider variety of their works. The concert will present music that the artists have written mostly in a Santa Fe, NM residency for a project entitled "Dreamers, Lovers and Outlaws." This project, released on recording in April 2007, has been touted on Northeast Public Radio's "51 per cent" to close to 140 stations across the US, on Armed Forces radio worldwide, and internationally across three continents. They will also present songs from a songwriting project they developed in Alexandria, Virginia called "Every Cobblestone Has A Story."

"The Great Songwriting Challenge & Vocal Performance" Workshop will be held from 2:00- 5:30pm. Attendees of this workshop will leave with at the very least an outline and framework for a new song, as well a greater understanding of the songwriting process and how to develop songs.
