Each workshop highlights a unique system of age appropriate exercise. Use of space, shape, energy and creative problem solving are the tools which stimulate the imagination and individual creative expression.

With over 25 years of experience teaching children in Arts-In-Education programs, Ann Morris and Rich Kuperberg have developed a unique method of teaching which focuses on technique, proper use of the body mechanics, concentration and imagination. CREATIVE CLAY with Barbara Reeley
Monday-Friday, 1:00 - 3:00 pm
This class is for children ages 6-12 who have an interest in working in clay.
Tuition: $45/Week, Materials Fee: $10 - Total: $55
Creative Clay

On Monday, July 21st we will start with each student having four handmade (by the teacher) bisqued tiles. We'll design a pattern or scene that will flow from one tile to another which will result in a four tile set once glaze fired. Students will work with underglazes and the teacher will glaze the tiles in her studio and return the tile projects to students before the end of the week. If time permits we will also make pinch pots on this day.

Tuesday, July 22nd we will create clay masks. Mask making is a creative exercise that sparks the imagination. Students will experience the powerful result of small changes in lines that produce very different expressions in their masks.

Wednesday, July 23rd, will be exciting. "Fossils" will be created by rolling slabs of clay and impressing (pushing) found objects into the clay. We will use a variety of natural and found objects ~ students are encouraged to bring natural and other small objects to class to experiment with texture.

Thursday, July 24th, we will use paper cones to create Medieval people. We will discuss Medieval dress and add details to make lords, ladies, monks & wizards.

Friday, July 25th, students will receive their tile projects from Monday's class. The tiles will have been glazed & fired and ready to be taken home. This day students will work on a community of houses. Students will design and construct basic clay box houses and add their own details. Once the houses are constructed they will be put together to form a community.

Except for Monday's clay projects, all other projects will be glazed and fired and returned to SLCA ten days after the end of the class session.

In 1978 Barbara studied pottery with Susan Schumpert in Virginia. Since that time Barbara has attended dozens of workshops, schools and craft centers to further her clay knowledge. For twenty-five of the thirty years she has been working in clay she has been teaching clay classes. Classes have ranged from 3 year olds to 80+ year olds, challenged individuals, professional people, college students, nursing homes, groups of Girl & Boy Scouts, home schooled children and many other organizations and individuals.

Does your child enjoy playing games, using their imagination, and creating skits or art? If they do, and are between the ages of 7-11, they will enjoy the Sand Lake Center for the Arts week long theater camp. During the camp there will be opportunities to learn some basic acting techniques and also how to create and produce their own play. There will be time to experiment with improvisation and theater games. At the end of the week they will be able to participate in their own production - their own play!

Val Kavanaugh taught 11th and 12th grade English for many years, including teaching a theater elective. She also directed the drama club at Berlin Central School for seven years. Currently she teaches theater and American Literature at Hudson Valley Community College. She has also co-directed a number of Circle Theatre Players Kids for Kids Productions. ACTING and IMPROV with Nan Mullenneaux

Acting and Improv

This week long workshop will teach both basic acting and improvisation skills to middle and high school aged students, exploring professional techniques in character development, comedy versus drama, memorization tricks, and finding emotional truth onstage. We will then take these skills and use them in scenes from Broadway plays and movie scripts. Our final class will be an open rehearsal for family and friends. The emphasis will be on fun, trust, and teamwork. There are no stars, says Nan, just great actors!

Nan has acted in regional, off-Broadway, dinner and summer stock theaters as well as film, television, and radio. Over the past twenty years Nan has developed highly successful acting classes for colleges, after-school programs, theater companies, and arts centers.
