VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Looking to lend a hand? We depend on volunteers like you.

Serve on a committee:

  • Help us maintain an eclectic selection of musical artists by finding and vetting bands, soloists and other performers.

  • Help maintain all aspects of the celebrated Circle Theatre Players. Work with production directors to fill important staff positions.

  • Write and implement important business policies for the Center.

  • Vet and present visual artists to showcase at the Dan Sekellick Visual Arts Gallery. Give local artists a space to share their work with the public.

  • Oversee all things financial. This committee meets once a month prior to the board meeting.

Most events need a house manager to:

  • Open and close the SLCA building

  • Oversee building issues and other volunteers, if any

  • Set up the performance space for events (music, theatre, youth, other)

  • Clean up after events

  • Usher guests

  • Sell and serve café refreshments or merchandise

Gallery events need a gallery manager for the above, plus:

  • Interacting with art viewers

  • Facilitating artwork sales

All theatre productions need volunteers to:

  • Act

  • Build stages, build sets and paint scenery

  • Stagehand

  • Manage sound and lighting

  • Manage props

  • Create or choose costumes

  • Apply makeup to actors

For over 40 years, community theatre and the sharing of it with the community has been a love of mine. The excitement and sense of accomplishment in all this has been one of the highpoints in my theatrical life.

SLCA has been an important part of my family’s life since my son Peter took the stage in To Kill a Mockingbird in 2006. Since then, he has been in over two dozen productions, has developed into a talented musician, and has taken on various leadership roles, which I attribute largely to the confidence that theatre has given him. My older son, Steven, has also gained self-esteem through theatre and music, and he continues to enjoy performing as well.

As a retiree with a love of being involved in my community while using my “hands-on” carpentry skills, I became involved in CTP set construction. Our town is fortunate to have such a venue in our midst—and the maintenance of such a unique, historically significant structure is on the top of my “to do” list.

Volunteering at SLCA has been one of the more enjoyable experiences of retirement. Collaborating with Sue Frost and other friends to create theatre productions is exciting and challenging and, most of all, fun. The Center has also given me the opportunity to connect with and be enriched by groups like Soul Rebel and the ARC. And working with talented children in summer programs is something I look forward to each year.
